CHinese classical music ensemble

The ANU Chinese Classical Music Ensemble was founded at the School of Music in 2003. Since then, the ensemble has grown substantially in size and now has 14 committed members playing a diverse array of traditional Chinese instruments including daruan, zhongruan, liuqin, pipa, dizi, erhu, yangqin and guzheng. The ensemble plays a wide range of Chinese music from the classics of the ancient past to music of the 21sr C.

Members are primarily students and staff at ANU, many of whom bring considerable experience in playing in ensembles and orchestras in China. The ensemble also welcome members from the broader Canberra community, some of these have been with the ensemble for over 10 years and provide stability for the ever-changing student membership.

The ensemble regularly gives performances for both the ANU and Canberra communities. In previous years the ensemble has played in the Multicultural Festival, at Floriade, the High Court, the National Library and the National Museum. The Ensemble also plays regularly at community events such as Lantern Festival and is available for private events. A fund-raising concert will be held on 9 October at the Centre on China in the World at ANU.
